Our Mission

As a women's organization, we recognize the need to build a community promoting equality, while at the same time celebrating diversity.

As a lesbian organization, we recognize the significance of advocating lesbian empowerment, especially in venues where the government does little to advance policies and programs beneficial to the local lesbian and gay community.

Pride March

Our Vision

A society where all peoples, regardless of gender, gender expression, culture and race, unite and work together to uplift human dignity

Our purpose is to D.E.S.I.R.E., which means:

DEVELOP a community of lesbians supporting gender issues
EDUCATE about diversity and emphasize lesbian empowerment
SUPPORT campaigns for equality
INITIATE the founding of a Diverse Womyn Development Center
RAISE monetary funds to support our projects
ELIMINATE homophobia and all other forms of oppression and exploitation directed against women, especially those who identify themselves as lesbians

SOUL launched at Cafe' Hon
SOUL Launched at cafe hon

The Society of United Lesbians (SOUL), a fast-growing organization of empowered women, was launched at the Cafe Hon in Kamias, Quezon City on a full moon last May 7, 2001. The launch coincided with the groupfs first major activity, a poetry reading dubbed as gKalibugan ng Buwan (Lust of the Moon): An Erotic Feast.h It was the organizationfs statement on sexuality issues and censorship.

Representatives of various womenfs and lesbian organizations supported SOUL during the launch as they read erotic poems they have written or have personally chosen. The event was filled with reggae and alternative music by Bletchie and the Girls Band, while Christine Ongpin and Beng Limpin performed a sensual poem. Readers were from Lesbian Advocates of the Philippines (LeAP!), UP Ugat, UP Quill, Womenfs Crisis Center & Womyn Supporting Womyn Center (WSWC). The Remedios AIDS Foundation, as part of their reproductive health campaign, gave away condoms and gave a few tips on how to use it properly. (Courtesy of Soulidarity, June 2001)

SOUL was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on July 10, 2001 as a non-profit non-stock association.
